Albuquerque is the economic and
geographic center of New Mexico. The City's central
location within the southwest and south central
United States is key to its success as a manufacturing
and distribution location.
Ground
Transportation
Albuquerque lies at the
intersection of two major interstates, I-40 and
I-25. Denver and Phoenix are both within 450 miles
of Albuquerque, as well as the key maquiladora
markets in southern New Mexico, Texas,
Arizona, and Mexico itself.
Albuquerque is a registered U.S.
Port of Entry with its own customs facility, enabling
freight cargo to be shipped directly and duty
paid locally. In addition, Albuquerque is a designated
Foreign Trade Zone, allowing goods to be stored
or manufactured in the zone by foreign or domestic
business without U.S. customs duty being imposed.
In late 2006, the New
Mexico Rail Runner Express began
carrying passengers from Belen to Bernalillo.
The train route will extend to Santa Fe by 2008.

Rail Transportation
The Albuquerque metro area is well served by the
BNSF
Railway. In fact, it is the initial reason
Albuquerque grew so rapidly many years ago. A
multimodal rail yard is available near Belen,
just 30 minutes south of the City of Albuquerque.
Several rail served sites are available for development
within the Albuquerque metro area.
